    The Dance

This piece is inspired by my love of dancing. I rediscovered dancing in my late fifties and I have danced ever since. Dancing unlocked something that I had lost, something I didn’t realise I was missing. I find dancing exciting, creative, fulfilling  and joyful. Dancing allows me time to be in the moment, to communicate, to be visible and gives me freedom to be myself.

This  work represents some of the elements of dancing. Rhythm, movement, power, fragility, unpredictability and connectivity. The rattan provides form. The copper  wire represents strength and flexibility holding the elements together. The silk paper describes the way the dance weaves and collaborates with others. The silk string is there because at sixty nine the dance doesn’t always go to plan and there are wobbles and uneven patches.

In today’s world, time spent dancing, being creative and joyful is essential and always time well spent.
